SHKIRIANIK TANNERY

Our calf leathers come from a far corner of Europe, where the herds still graze in open air, and the countrymen feed the cows with hay to drink the fresh milk in the morning and such healthy diet shields the animals from consequences of the questionable intensive breeding practices.
Close to the old Leopolis, Shkirianik provides a secured supply of a high-grade raw material to the Alba Group, ready to be transformed into wonderful high fashion articles.

OUR HISTORY

From the ashes of war aftermath to the challenges of eco-sustainability, three generations held together by love for leathers.

The first seed of the future Alba Group was plated by the founder, Alvaro Banti, (from whom came the name Alba) soon after the end of the II world war. The first drum for tanning leathers was made recycling an old wine barrel. Since the beginning, the enterprise has focused on the production of articles for the shoes market, which soon became its strong point. During the sixties and seventies economic boom, the enterprise had constantly grown and in 1973 the Aba Tannery was built.

In 1980 the enterprise was inherited by the two sons Gabrio and Massimo, and under their direction, the tannery has further grown becoming one of the leading tanneries in Tuscany, with an excellent value for money ratio being her signature weapon. In the meanwhile, the nearby, suede focused, Delhi tannery was acquired, and subsequentially physically joined with the Alba Tannery into a single compound. To satisfy the growing market, in 2003 Pegaso Tannery was built and provided with forefront design and machines. It was the dawn of the Alba Group.

When the fight for raw leather supplies intensified, the Group acquired the Ukrainian tannery Shkirianik, ensuring from then on, a preferential supply chain for a high-quality raw material at a very competitive price. In the meantime, the Group acquired the former Reptilia tannery and transformed it into a wet blue leather depot. In the following years the third generation of the family joined the company. With their efforts the Group has renewed, entering the leather markets all over the world and greatly expanding and enriching its collections.

The last years have been marked by an historical turn, after over a half century long leadership in the medium shoes market, the Group is now targeting the luxury and the handbags markets. For this sake Pegaso tannery was reshaped and focused to satisfy these market requirements, and adopting a high ethical and environmental policy, guaranteed by international certificates. In 2019, after a strong research work, Pegaso also launched a reptile embossment collection, for both shoes and handbags, which was immediately successful and got utterly bigger and richer with the passing seasons. Getting to 2020 the first Metal Free collection was launched, getting rid of the noxious and potentially toxic heavy metals, to meet the growing request for Eco sustainability which is surely the new challenge of the Italian and world economy.
